Yugi's. Not just any friend but a best friend. He's also the most loyal friend Yugi could ever want. He use to be a street gangster type and can still act this way at certain times. He will also do anything for his little sister Cerinity. He doesn't get to see her a lot because their parents are divorced. His sister is losing her eye sight so Joey snuck onto the ship heading to the duelist kindom along with Tea and Triston so they could be together. Joey is very smart and wants to win for his sisters sake.
Yugi gave Joey 1 star chip of his two to compete. And when Joey kicks Mai's butt in Duel Monsters with his 1000 Dragon card, and after discovering her secret he earns some star chips.
