Yugi is a small boy who attends Domino Highschool. Yugi is picked on by everyone. He doesn't have any "Real" friends. Once his grandpa gives him one of the 7 millenium items, he solves it and makes a wish for friends. At first he has a problem. One time Joey and Triston, some local bullies in his class, take the Millenium Puzzle and through it into a lake. Once Yugi retrieves it, a bigger bully comes and beats on Joey and Triston. When Yugi says he considers them friends, he stands up for them and makes two friends. Later they become his best friends along with a cheerleader who incourages everyone, Tea. He was born to play Duel Monsters and uses his Grandpa's cards.
